THE UNION FOR PERFUMERY & ALLIED TRADES

What could collective action look like in independent perfumery?

Join the The Union For Perfumery and Allied Trades for an open conversation about the organization taking shape and what a collective voice could mean for the future of the industry.

We’ll open the floor to perfumers, brand owners, and the wider fragrance community to ask questions, explore how to get involved, and discuss the issues that should be considered as the Union develops its mission and role within perfumery.

Because building something collectively means making room for the community to help shape the conversation.

SAFE SNIFFING THROUGH A PERFUMER'S LENS

What does “safe” actually mean when you’re making perfume?

Safe Sniffing brings perfumers together to pull back the curtain on how they work with materials responsibly, how they navigate safety and skin testing, and what consumers often misunderstand about the ingredients in their fragrances.

We’ll also unpack the language of “clean,” “natural,” “synthetic,” and “high-quality” ingredients and ask what those words really mean from the perspective of the people actually making perfume.

FROM PAGE TO PERFUME

What happens when a perfumer steps inside someone else’s imagination?

Join LC James of Distaff & Spindle and Justin Charles of Jean Robert Co. for a conversation about Théâtre Saint-Siméon, a fragrance created in collaboration with Sara Hinkley, author of The Red Sacrament, and a different approach to the increasingly common intersection of fragrance and media.

Because sometimes the most interesting perfume brief isn’t a brief at all. It’s a book, a film, a painting, a song, or an entire world waiting to be smelled.

THE LUXURY MASQUERADE

Who decided what luxury smells like?

Perfume has always been intertwined with aspiration, status, exclusivity, and taste. But when we call a fragrance “luxury,” are we describing its craftsmanship, its price, its scarcity, or simply the story we’ve been taught to believe?

The Luxury Masquerade examines the cultural codes that tell us what is valuable, who gets to define “good taste,” and the role class plays in how we collect, discuss, and market fragrance.

WOMEN IN PERFUME

Fragrance has spent generations selling to women. That hasn’t always meant giving women an equal voice in shaping the industry.

Women in Perfume brings together women founders, perfumers, and brand owners for a candid conversation about authority, ambition, entrepreneurship, and what it means to build a career in a field where women can still find themselves fighting for recognition and a seat at the table.

perhaps it’s time to ask: do we still want a seat at the existing table, or should we be building something better?

ANALOG COMMUNITY - OUTSIDE THE ALGORITHM

We have more ways to connect than ever before. So why can community still feel so hard to find?

The internet has transformed perfume, allowing enthusiasts, artists, perfumers, and collectors across the world to find one another. But followers aren’t necessarily friends, an audience isn’t always a community, and parasocial connection can’t fully replace the experience of actually being together.

Analog Community explores what happens when we take our shared love of perfume offline. We’ll talk about friendship and parasociality, creating spaces that don’t exist for content or algorithms, and practical ways to start local perfume communities wherever you live.
